Poem pairing:
Lovers parted by a broken cliff,
Under a legendary full moon's light,
Round moon connects a reunion glyph,
Partition fades and lovers reunite.
Inspiration: I was born in a small town and raised in the minority Chinese population of Malaysia and this painting was partly inspired by a Chinese legend that I grew up with and celebrated during the Moon Festival. As the story goes, there is a goddess of the moon named Chang'e, only able to descend from the moon once a year to be reunited with her husband on earth during the full harvest moon. Their separation is eternal, but so is their love.
